New training

My dog has decided he likes to be a little shit when eating his food. He likes to pick out pieces of it and drop it all over the kitchen. I have come up with a method of teaching him to not that I hope works. I will watch him when I feed him and when I catch him doing that I immediately take his food away for a short time. When I give it back and he goes for a period without doing that I will give him a small treat. I really hope this works because I'm so sick of food all over the place.

* He doesn't eat it off the floor. He leaves it till I clean it up. I'm not punishing him, I'm training him.
