When should car seat be sat up straight?

I’m not sure if there’s an actual rule of when a car seat should be sat up straight and not reclined or if it’s just personal decision. My daughter is twelve months old and her car seat is semi reclined. Just wondering if I should be sitting her straight up by now?

At 12 months they’re still rear facing so reclined is the only option.

Sorry ladies, I didn’t even think to specify that she’s forward facing now. Rear facing law here in Australia is only til 6 months. I’ve honestly never heard of rear facing for longer til I joined this community with all the Americans on it lol. I did have her rear facing for a while after six months because I purely couldn’t be bothered mucking around with it, but she’s far too big to be rear facing and fully reclined now!

Read the manual. At that age she should be rear facing still for another year and all rear seats will say they need to be reckoned. Ours have a nice handy level and it tells you where you need to be in rear facing.

Check your car seats manual. Generally if the child can sit-up well without support you can reduce the recline angle. Your manual will outline specifically where it should be as it’s different for every seat. There is no general rule for car seats except always check the manual!

My daughter is almost 2 and she's reclined. if we sat her straight up her legs would be squished since she's rear facing.
