Train trip with a 17 month old?

So I am asking for advice from anyone with experience, have you even traveled Amtrak/train with a toddler? My son will be 17 months, and I’m considering the train to travel from CA to KY, so a long trip. The main factor is cost, it would be half the price as a plane ticket and I think we could do it. And the reason for going is my best friends graduation. I also think it would be fun for him to watch out the windows and I can use the stroller/carrier for naps (which we’ve used plenty before) Travel time could be between 48-62 hours.

I’ve read many mixed reviews, I’m sure it depends how used to adapting/traveling you are and we are well traveled, have flown, stayed different places, he’s spent much time in a carrier (when crawling wasn’t ideal or when he was sleepy and we weren’t around a bed, etc) but I feel like that may be too long for him. I remember it being long when I was a freshman in high school and we did a similar trip, it was incredible and so fun to see all the sights unseen by car or plane but I just remember being tired when we arrived and getting a little cabin fever toward the end because we got delayed 8 hours. Anyone have experience? Word of advice? Harsh truth?

TIA!
