Help please

My one year old still wakes up after 30-40 mins and since he turned one 1 week ago he has been refusing to go back to sleep. This only happens at night and then sleeps rights through without waking till morning. I leave the room and he screams his head off and iv done this last night and tonight and he is going on 1 he straight of crying. If I go in there he gets more worked up last night I went in after 1 he an patted him and he wen to bed. He goes down easy but just wakes after 30-40 mins and I don’t know what to do. I’m at a loss. My husband doesn’t handle the crying well and causes arguments between us that end up way bigger than they should. Normally I can shush my son back to bed but this week he takes over an hr to go back to sleep. I’m loosing it
