Sleeping Positions?

Katie

So, normally I'd ask my OB this but one insurance just ended and my new OB can't meet with me for a couple weeks and I'm kind of anxious about this now. I'm a first time mom, so I'm probably overly anxious about this. But I keep reading about how I should sleep on my left side because it gets blood flow to the uterus and the baby. I thought that'd be no problem because that's how I typically sleep. But for the past week or so, whenever I sleep on my left side, my hip goes almost numb and then it just shoots pain down my leg. If I sleep on my right side, it doesn't hurt at all. Is it bad for me to sleep on my right side? Or is there something I can do to alleviate the pain on my left side? I've tried looking stuff up but I'm only 13 weeks and everything I can find is about when you're in the third trimester and seems specific to that. I'm probably being overly paranoid, but I've already had one miscarriage and I just want to do all I can to make sure this baby is healthy!
