Appointment timeline

Hey all!

I got my BFP Friday late in the day, so I had to wait until today to call my OBGYN. I called asking for one of my Dr's nurses, and the receptionist asked why I called. I told her I had a positive. and she said that she can help me. She scheduled me at 7 weeks (1st opening) with a nurse for what she called a "care appointment" and said my doctor won't see me until 12 weeks. Is this unusual? I feel like that's a long time to go without seeing my OBGYN.
