Is there a difference between 'love you' and 'I love you'?

So my boyfriend and I have this discussion every so often. I think that there is a difference between saying 'I love you' and 'love you'. He does not. Am I crazy for thinking this?

I used to think so. When people said “love you” it really really bothered me. “I love you too” also bothered me because I felt like it was forced and not sincere. However, as I’ve gotten older I know there is no difference. It’s all okay.

I feel like love you is a lighthearted, playing, brushed off version and I love you is genuine and sincere

Realistically, no. But to me it means way more when my husband says I love you instead of just love you.

I think it depends on the person and the context. They mean two different things when I say them but, again, depends on the context for me too

I say love you to my best friends and siblings and cousins and I love you to my husband. I've always been that way though. I feel like love you is more of a best friend type of deal while I love you is for my SO and parents.
