Baby Charlotte is here

Baby Charlotte is here!

LONG STORY!

I'm sitting here in the hospital holding my baby skin to skin. She came at 35 wks, 1 day.

On Monday morning I went to the clinic for my first NST due to gestational diabetes. It was slightly abnormal, but they eventually got the variables the needed. My blood pressure was high, so they sent me for labs that afternoon. I had a horrible go around with my doctor's office for the results and the ended up sending me to the hospital the next night. I got my first round of steroid shots and then was sent home. My doctor's office called me VERY upset the next morning that I hadn't stayed (which isn't my fault, the hospital sent me home). So they had me go back the next night. My BP was so high they admitted me and started me on magnesium (the literal worst).

They decided to start induction at midnight with cervidil. For the next 12 hours there was no progress, so they decided to use a cervical ripening balloon and pitocin. I dialated to 3 centi and never any farther. They ended up stopping the pitocin and breaking my water and I still never progressed. They put a fetal monitoring device on babies and head and we waited for another couple of hours, still nothing. They gave her a break from the pitocin (didn't effect me in the least, very few contractions and I was extra drugged up from magnesium.) Eventually we were given the option to start pitocin again with it being unlikely to change anything, or we could do a c section. This was almost 48 hours after the beginning of the induction and babies heart variables had become almost non existent so we decided on the c section to be safe and end this horrible process. Less than an hour later we had our baby Charlotte. She is TINY but mighty! She hasn't needed to go to the NICU and is a feeding champ for being such a little one!

My doctor took me off of the magnesium and I had breathing problems and bp problems still as well. So I am taking BP meds. And the breathing cleared up after a day or so. My BP had been pretty controlled until tonight where it is elevated. I am so worried they won't let me go home or worse put me back on magnesium. Baby girl is so perfect and doing so well. I never thought it would be my body that might not let us go home. :-(

I just want to go home!!
