when did/will you tell your child?

Our 2.5yo dd is very observant and bright. When would you begin preparing kids? I'm worried if we tell her & things go wrong it will be awkward. Background: it took us 7yrs to get her inc. IVF and our final IVF ended in an ectopic (ruptured tube & surgery). This was a spontaneous conception and we are really happy but cautious.

Luckily my daughter is 1 so she doesn’t understand or care. But I told her right away. Lol

I’ve told my 2 year old that I have a baby in my belly. But I haven’t told my older son (8) because I am planing on telling dad on Thursday after I have my first ultrasound.

I told my 5 year old the day I found out I am pregnant with number 3. I told my 13 month old too but of course she has zero idea. I am preparing them both for the upcoming baby and if something bad happens I will explain that to my 5 year old. She knows she cant tell anyone yet because we “need to make sure the baby is happy and healthy in mummy’s tummy”.
