can i put my boyfriends last name on my babys birth certificate?

okay so I'm 18 weeks pregnant , my boyfriend went to jail about 1 week ago and we just got the bad news that he will be in there for 6 months which he would get out September 2018 , im due a month before on August 27 , i was wondering if i could still put his last name when the baby is born even tho hes not there ??? I've heard you can send some paper work to him at the jail so he can fill it out and sign in there but not sure soo confused 😕

Depends...I was able to give my daughter her dads last name but couldnt list him as the father without him being present since we weren’t married. I was told he had to be there and he also had to sign a paper stating he did not want a paternity test. This was 12 years ago so it may have changed. I would definitely call and ask the birth certificate office at the hospital you plan to deliver at

In my state the father has to go through the courts to be added if you're not married.

Yeah you can make the baby’s last name his name. Not sure about signing it but maybe call the birth certificate place and the prison if you can

yeah. you'll get the paperwork for the birth certificate to fill out the day before you leave once you complete the babys part(first,middle,last) then your section. you just fill in his dad's.
