Ladies who have had an epidural! Do you get back pain that seems to be caused by your epidural?

I’ve always had back pain (mostly cause I have fairly large breasts 😓) but ever since after giving birth I’ve had pretty serious back pain, it’s pretty consistent and nothing seems to help it. My Mother says that it could possibly be from the epidural, and I’m just curious if anyone else has this?

Mine felt bruised and a little painful for a few weeks. Nothing long term though

Ever since I got it my back aches so bad on that spot. Especially when I do dishes. I don’t know if it really was because of it, but it’s funny that I started getting the pain after I had my son.

I have had on/off back ache most of my life (thanks scoliosis!) After my first epidural I had some increased aching and talked to my OB and she said it’s far likely more from being pregnant/holding a baby a lot than an epidural. I even read a study that said epidurals cannot cause long term back pain. Short term from the catheter, yes. The study said that the same number of women who have had an epidural complain of back pain at the same incidence of those who did not have an epidural.

It’s most likely from actually being pregnant. Pregnant women develop lordosis in order to still be able to walk with al lethal weight throwing off your Center of gravity. There’s also a chance your baby compressed your sciatic nerve or you damaged your spine or spinal cord.

Yes, I wouldn't say it's because of the epidural, but it hurts on that exact same spot. It's so weird. Specially when I'm standing still for a while (dishes, stuff like that).

Mine hurt for a couple weeks pretty consistently, then went away. I’m now 15w pp and will just randomly get a shooting pain right where the epidural needle was. It’s killer, but only lasts a couple seconds. It’s usually when I bend a certain way, so I try to avoid it or prepare for it! 😅

I had it pretty bad after my epidural and started going to the chiropractor, he adjusted me, did acupuncture, and laser therapy once a week. There's been a huge difference! I would highly recommend that if you're into chiropractors

I personally never have had any, but my friend has had ongoing back pain that can't be explained by doctors except for it had to have been the epidural she had
