Cramping

I used to have bad cramps and that’s why I initially went on birth control... I’ve been on it for about 3 years and decided hormones were not doing me too many favors for all the reactions I had to them... now I just got the Copper IUD And I am having my first period on it and the cramps are BAD! I am taking ibuprofen for it but was curious as to when I should be concerned? I’m willing to give it a few months but I wanted to know when I should assume it’s something besides my body adjusting..?
