6 week old, sleep regression, growth spurt, something else?
(Sorry for the long post!) So my 6 week old was sleeping & eating great since we brought him home! At night he would sleep for 3-5 hours at a time and wake up just long enough to eat & get his diaper changed. Once that was done he was back asleep after a little cuddling. Then during the day he’d take a few naps for like 1-2 hours at a time. He would sleep in his crib ok, and during the day when he was more awake he would lay around no problem! (Of course sometimes he’d cry out but he was pretty content most the time just laying in his swing or just hanging on his pillow thing on the couch.)
This past week his feeding changed. I was expecting a growth spurt or for his sleeping pattern to change eventually but I’m not sure if this is it? I tried looking it up & the “signs” for both sleep regression and growth spurt aren’t exactly what he’s doing. And I know each baby is different but I’m hoping one of you has a good idea.
So he still sleeps ok. He takes less naps but for much longer. Today he took two naps, each for 4-5 hours. Then I laid him down for bed, and he just screamed and screamed. So I picked him up to see what was up, checked his diaper, tried feeding him more in case he wasn’t actually full, checked to make sure he wasn’t too warm or anything, but I couldn’t find anything wrong and he fell asleep as soon as I stopped messing with him and just held him. So I went to lay him back in his crib and he started screaming again! I tried to give him a couple minutes to see if he’d fall back asleep but nothing, he was wide awake! I laid him in his little pillow thing because I really had to pee & Dad wasn’t home yet. He was super calm, just laying there looking around. He started crying again after like 30 minutes so I gave him his binkienand he fell asleep after another 30 minutes. He woke back up after 1 hour (9ish) and drank 4 ounces and then fell asleep around 9:30. At about 12 I moved him to his crib and he stayed asleep. He slept until about thirty lminutes ago (its 2am now) and I figured he’d be hungry again since it’d been almost 5 hours since he ate, and he didn’t eat much during the day either. I held him for a second but he didn’t make any of his usual hungry signs but I figured I’d at least offer the bottle to be safe, but he didn’t want any part of it (he ate like 1 ounce and then refused the bottle) I changed his diaper and he fell right asleep. I tried setting him in his crib just now but again he started screaming, still not wanting the bottle. Basically all day today, he screams whenever I try to lay him down anywhere. I have to hold him until he’s in a deep sleep and then I can move him or else he’ll just scream and scream. I’m not sure what it is? And he won’t sleep for very long if I’m not holding him or close by him. Everything I found said if it’s a growth spurt they’ll wanna eat MORE often and the sleep regression would cause them to be clingy but I’m not sure if that is what’s going on?
Any insight, mommas?
I feel bad for the little guy, but I also feel bad for my arm that keeps going numb lol 😂
I checked his temp to make sure he didn’t have a fever and he didn’t seem sick in any other way, he just isn’t eating as much as he was and he sleeps only if I’m holding him. He wouldn’t even sleep when his dad was holding him and he usually falls asleep for dad easily.
