Gender test with genetic testing - insurance covered??

Hi mamas...
So my hubby and I are opting to do the genetic testing at 12 weeks. I know that a lot of people also find out the gender with the genetic test. 
My doctor didn’t offer me that option, and I’m wondering if it’s because my insurance won’t cover that portion of the test.
Ladies - if you found out the gender during your genetic screening, did your insurance cover it and if not, what did you pay? 
I have Optima and it’s been great so far!

I don't think NIPT is covered buy most insurances unless you are AMA or have other high risk factors.

I was told on Tuesday that I couldn’t get it done during my testing because most insurances won’t cover gender unless you’re over 35 with certain risk factors. I was so bummed, so we are just going to get a private 3D ultrasound in about 3 weeks to find out the gender!

Ask your doctor for the billing codes, then call your insurance company and ask. Some insurance policies cover it, while others don’t. You can also call the test company as sometimes they offer, reduced rates for people if your insurance company doesn’t cover it.

Mine wasn't covered and I got a bill for $6500. It's still not worked out yet.

Mine did, only had to pay 69$ out of pocket. My doctor told me I could do the test and see how much insurance would cover but the other option was paying the out of pocket cost which was $250. Basically he told us if insurance cost was higher then we could just pay the self pay fee but we were lucky!! Hope this helps. We have Cigna insurance btw.
