how can i get my 1 year old to open his mouth more?

i get so frusturated he is one year and 4 months and when i feed him with a spoon he only opens his mout alittle bit and then closes fast i can barely get food in. i dont want to force it so are their tips and tricks? UPDATE: he eats solids. he eats everything just not with a spoon or fork.

stop spoon feeding him. He is more than capable of feeding himself with his own fingers. Even if its applesauce or yogurt or something along those lines, now is the time for him to learn.

What in the world?! You are still spoon feeding?! Stop immediately. He should be eating solids by now and almost everything. Start by giving him finger foods, let him eat them himself. Work your way up to where he is eating everything. My daughter is a month older than your son and is feeding herself with a spoon fork thingy now. She eats everything we eat. No more puréed food for a while.

You don’t need to spoon feed him anymore only when it’s liquid food like yogurts even then you can leave him to feed himself ok he make a mess but he enjoy doing it 😁.. at his age he should be eating off a plate normal food not mashed just chopped up, give him finger food he learn to open his own mouth wider when he’s feeding himself..

Okay so I think people might be missing the mark with your situation... baby doesn’t magically start using utensils, it’s just about exposure... give him a fork and spoon with every meal (back when we first started I used ChooMee starting spoons (there’s other similar brands) and loaded spoons (put the food on the spoon and leave it on baby’s tray to pick up) - my little one is 17 months and uses both pretty well, but it’s not exclusive, she still uses her hands and that’s developmentally fine... but definitely allow baby to play with the fork and spoon AND let them watch you use yours, mine loves to use mine and be like mommy - don’t stress if food isn’t getting into baby’s mouth, it’s all about playing and learning... it’s gojng to get messy and that’s okay

I agree with the other mamas… Baby led weaning is the way to go! You just basically stop spoon feeding, and give him whatever you’re having for dinner and just cut it up into finger sized pieces so he can pick them up and bite them. There are some choking hazards though, so be careful with anything fibrous, like apples or anything with tough skin like grapes or hotdogs. You can also still give him purées in pouches, so he’s feeding himself.

Let him feed himself, look up baby led weaning. Basically just plop some soft food on his chair and let him go to town! 😊 Some of my daughter's first foods were avocado, banana, sweet potato, and squash.

Well he’s not going to learn how to use a spoon himself if you’re still feeding him. Put the food down in front of him, give him a fork and spoon and let him go to town. You’re going to have Ames’s but it’s the only way he’ll learn.

Just put the food on a plate and let him go to town. I always offer a fork with my son’s meals and he always attempts it but it wasn’t until recently that he could actually use it (he’s 18 months) and he still doesn’t use it regularly, his hands are still faster and easier. Your LO is probably trying to tell you he wants more independence.

I’ve stopped spoon feeding a few months ago, my girl is one. I just give finger foods and if I want to give her something like yogurt or applesauce I put it in one of those reusable pouches so she can feed it to herself. I plan on giving her a fork soon so she can practice. It takes a while for them to get the hang of it. Just let me practice
