how do i know?

my baby is 5 weeks old and ive recently come down with a bug. unsure if its a cold or the flu, so far i have a headache that hurts more when i move my eyes or neck and body aches. but my question is, how do i know when and if my baby has caught the bug, what can i do for him and when do i take him to the doctor?

If you’re breast feeding he shouldn’t catch your bug because of the antibodies your milk provides him. Also, check in with a doctor if you’ve been sick for a while, it sounds like you may have a sinus infection!i get them everytime I have a common cold. They’re not contagious, because the bacteria builds up literally in your face and glands but a few days worth of antibiotics will nip it in the bud!

Sorry to hear that Paige. Hope you feel better soon. My son got sick when he was 6 weeks old (11 months now). The only symptoms fir him were: gagging when laying down; looked like reflux when he was up (likely from mucus and post nasal drip), he was feeding less and would gag and throw up a couple of times a day and was very cranky. I was EBF, and I think that helped. He got better after about a week. My suggestion- if you are BF, offer to nurse as much as you can, keep a track of his wet diapers. No wet diapers for 6 hours, take the baby in. The baby should pee atleast 5-6 times in 24 hrs. Babies are not likely to get a fever at this age so keep an eye on the baby’s behaviour in general. Trust your instincts. It will be hard, but you will be fine. Also, my son did not catch my bug on two occasions. I believe BF helped. The time he got it, was when I did not get sick. Good luck!
