Should it be legal to choose the sex of your embryo
I’m about to go in for an embryo transfer tomorrow and I know that it’s a female embryo. I choose a type of genetic testing called PGS to lower my risk of miscarriage by testing the embryo to confirm it has the right number of chromosomes. With finding that out you also find out the sex chromosomes of the embryo. Many couples go to fertility clinics specifically seeking out a son or daughter with no fertility issues. When I transferred the embryo that got me my son I asked them to not tell me before the transfer. My husband and I felt very weird being able to pick the sex of our child. But this time they accidentally told me! Personally I’d be happy with all girls, all boys, we just never cared.
How do you feel about it? Do you think you should be able to pick the sex of your embryo? (In Canada where I am from it’s illegal, but I went to a US lab where it is legal. The only time it’s legal in Canada is if you are a known carrier of a genetic issue passed down to one sex)
