A doctor will not order a DNA test unless you're advanced maternal age or have other high risk factors. The test's main purpose is to check for chromosomal abnormalities and other genetic disorders. Finding out the gender is just a bonus.

My doctor told me I can have a blood test taken at 10 weeks and find out. However the cost to my is uncertain; depends on what my insurance will cover and I don't have any particular medical reason that requires it.

Mine is at 12wks. She said anyone can elect to have it at a cost. Due to a history of losses, mine will be covered by insurance as long as I wait until 12wks

I just had an ultrasound Thursday and I was 6w3d. my doctor told me that we can take a blood test at 11 weeks to find out any abnormalities and see babies gender. I don't have any complications with this pregnancy she just offered it to me☺

I’m AMA so I’ll get mine around 10 weeks. My understanding is that insurance will not cover the testing at all unless you are of AMA.
