Baby boy name: long version, or just keep it simple?

My husband and I are so different in our preferences in names. we have always easily chosen girl names, but for some reason we struggle finding common ground when selecting boy names. This is our third (and likely last) baby and both agree that we like the name Daxton. I think I like it because I would love the nickname Dax. And my husband agrees we would likely use the shorter nickname most of the time. My question is, if we like it because of the nickname, should we just skip the long name all together and name the baby Dax?
