Keto diet pregnant?

Is the Keto diet safe while pregnant? I had started it before getting pregnant, Was not as consistent so I had made an appointment with a specialist to talk about it and get me fully on track but I cancelled since I’m not sure if it’s safe to do the keto diet while pregnant.

FYI: the ketogenic diet doesn’t put you in ketoacidosis. That’s a really severe condition that occurs pretty much only in type 1 diabetes. It might put you in mild ketosis, which is not the same thing. Ketosis is a harmless and normal process that happens when your body produces ketones for fuel rather than using glucose. Even then there isn’t any really dramatic ketosis going on because you are still eating a small amount of carbs and not in a starvation state. (I know this because I did my senior research on it - interesting stuff, lol) Whether it’s good for pregnancy is probably something I’d talk about with your OB. There probably really isn’t enough evidence to say for sure whether it’s safe or not, but your doctor will still have a better perspective on it than most.

No its not. You need healthy carbs during pregnacy and the typical Keto diet does not allow enough and its way to high in protein for your growing baby. Your better off doing the whole 30 if your looking to make a diet / lifestyle change.

Im doing modfied keto. Still no rice or wheat products, but having legumes (cause lots of really good nutrients in navy beans) and some fruit and plenty of veggies, of course.  I plan to cycle between 50-150g of carbs a day. Remember you get all the calories you want, and with a prenatal vitamin I think it will be just fine. BUT...if you have any cravings and you know its a preggo craving, go ahead. Like if baby wants a slice of whole wheat toast with grape jelly...doooo iiiiiiitttt. 😂
