Are gifts essential to relationships?

At times I find myself gifting my SO a lot of nice, expensive gifts... even without a reason but, unless I let him know that I think a gift for me would be nice once in a while, it doesn’t occur to him to gift me anything. I don’t mind buying him things or spending money on him, because I love him, but I would like to be treated and surprised once in a while...am I overthinking?????

Have you ever heard about the 5 love languages? If not you should check it out, essentially it’s about how there are different ways to love and everyone wants to be loved differently. One of the types are gifts and while you may think they’re important and want them to feel loved maybe he doesn’t and that is okay but maybe he wants you to show it a different way and you want him to show you with gifts. And don’t think of that as a bad thing because gifts aren’t always about expensive things it could be as simple as if he’s out and sees something you might like or your favourite treat and get it which shows you he was thinking about you!

my husband doesn't buy me many gifts but he does alot of Reno's around the house and in his mind he's a god cause he just built me a new linen closet. I do appreciate it but men just think so differently then women.

Definitely not expensive ones, but like if you come across their favorite candy or something small like that I think it’s necessary because that keeps up some mystery but also shows them that you’re thinking of them.

I know exactly how you feel! A while ago i would always buy my bf shirts and phone accessories but I would never get anything in return so I kind of just stopped cuz it made me feel bad. Us girls deserve to be spoiled from time to time too!
