What week does the second trimester start?

I don't know why but I've been told the second trimester starts both, when week 12 is over and when week 14 begins. So which is it? Does it start at week 13 or 14?

Officially it starts at 14 weeks, then third trimester is 28 weeks. Think of it like this, if the longest you can be pregnant is 42 weeks (which is when most doctors say is the longest you should be pregnant without being induced), split the 3 trimesters evenly and it’s 14 weeks each 😊

Conception to 12 weeks- 1st trimester 
13-28 weeks- 2nd trimester 
29-40 weeks- 3rd trimester
