Post Pill Period???

So due to some pretty severe side effects, I had to stop taking my birth control pills. This was around the beginning of March. I was on my period then, but now I'm 6 days late. I took a test a couple days ago, and it was negative. Did I test to early? Is there a reason why I haven't gotten my period back yet? Any help and advice would be awesome.
