Post birth contraception?

JoJo • Our miracle is here after 11.5 years of TTC! 👣💙

I went in for a prenatal exam yesterday, and among many personal questions the doc asked me, "So, what method do you and your husband plan to use for contraception after your baby is born?" I sat there blinking stupidly for two seconds... the thought had never crossed my mind!

We've never used any before, so I hadn't figured we'd start. My answer came out, "Uh... abstinence??"

She laughed as if that was a strange answer to her unexpectedly strange question and replied, "Ha! We'll just say 'condoms'. If you were a teenager, we'd encourage abstinence, but since you're married, no one is going to expect THAT of you!"

I gave a nervous laugh followed by more stupid blinking. Does it really sound that crazy that a married woman would have trouble abstaining after delivering a tiny human? Does she seriously believe that it would be easier to expect a hormone driven teen to abstain over a couple who's been married for more than a dozen years?? Trust me, lady... abstaining will come more easily to us than expecting a man married for 12 years to purchase and use a condom! 😂
