Anatomy scan again??

Question

Hi I went for my anatomy scan on Monday, I got a call Tuesday saying I have to come back and scheduled me for the following Monday. I asked what was this about all she could tell me is nothing bad just need additional imaging (I know she can't tell me either way she's just the tech) has this happened to anybody and everything be ok? I'm so worried!!

It’s usually because they can’t get all of the views the first go around. Based on baby’s position, it’s difficult to get both spinal canal measurements and heart measurements. And repeating a week or so later means baby is bigger, so the anatomy is easier to find. They’re looking at much more than the genitals, even though that seems to be what most people are interested in.

agreed! I had to do mine twice. my first one was at 18 weeks and they get everything but the kidneys, then at 22 weeks they saw everything but all four Chambers of the heart (which they had already seen at 18 weeks) 
a lot just depends on the baby's position and quality of the US machine

I’m going on tomorrow for a repeat as well. They weren’t able to see all 4 extremities, and the spine wasn’t clear enough. Same thing happened with my first, and everything was fine. Most likely just because baby is moving so much!

I have to go back and redo the pictures of my sons face since he was facing my back and wouldn’t turn around

They couldn’t get a good profile view on my little girl and also a lateral view of her kidneys so I’m going back in early May.  My doctor said she wanted to do it a few weeks out so we could also check growth.

Don’t worry! This happened to me too (they warned me it might), because of the position the baby was in they couldn’t get clear pictures of the heart so they wanted to re-do them just be safe and certain. Probably everything is fine!!

Yes it's very normal, I had to go for additional ones with 2 of my 3 pregnancies as they were little active monkeys, it's important they get to see and measure lots of different parts to make sure all is well 🤗

I have to go back in two weeks to do mine again because he wasn’t able to see everything he needed to.
