Do you believe that strict parenting leads to more rebellious kids?

Question

Basically, do you think really strict parents tend to have kids who act out when they’re older? I personally think this makes sense and see it applies to a lot of my friend’s kids and how I was raised too. 
I want to know your thoughts! 🙃

I had very loving fun parents, but we had rules. and they were strict about them. my parents were parents not my friends. and my sister and I never tried to Rebel.

I think parents need to find a middle ground. If you are in your child's business 24/7, they are going to lie. They're going to rebel just to prove that they can. If you're the complete opposite and don't care at all, then they won't care about anything either and will likely get in a lot of trouble. Let your kids spend time with friends, but have a curfew. Have rules, be strict with the important things and laid back with the things that don't matter as much. That way the kids have freedom, but also understand the importance of staying safe.

I think it depends. Thinking of preschool age (bc I worked in a daycare for 4 years) I think it's important to focus on developmentally appropriate behavior. the parents tgat have either too high of expectations, tgat are beyond what's developmentally appropriate, or too low of expectations tend to have issues later on even just towards kindergarten age. to me, I think of the phrase "what you teach from birth to three is what will matter most to me"     middle ground is essential and parents should try to have empathy for kids' big feelings. I'm a fan of Dr Becky Bailey's conscious discipline, I've seen it work wonders at the daycare so I really believe it's a good method to raising and educating kids. honestly, you can relate most of her methods to adult relationships too. youtube "Dr Becky Bailey hamster" to see different parenting styles. it really opened my eyes to how I was raised and how I want to raise my kids. her videos seem cheesy sometimes, but she explains things so clearly.

Define strict.....I was grounded for being less than 10min late past my curfew. Some people see that as to strict but I (now of course) see it as fair. We had rules and consequences but nothing like a friend who was kicked out of her house for deciding she didn't want to play a sport any longer (she was in high school and it was not like she wanted to quit not season). That type of strict...sure it lead to big time rebellion on her part as soon as she was in college.

I had very strict parents. They wanted me to focus on school so I didn't have as hard of a time as they did when they graduated. We didn't have a lot of money growing up, but my sister and I would never have known because all their extra money went to piano lessons, dance classes, etc. They provided the best life they could for us, and I realized that as I became a teenager. So, I never had a rebellious stage, and although I was a little jealous of my friends' parents lackadaisical attitudes, I understood why my parents were the way they were.

Depends on the kid.  Some kids are rule followers.  Others are not.  
When I think of strict parenting, I think of strict authoritarian parenting (you know...do what I say and that is that).  I think that kind of parenting can encourage non-rule followers to rebel or be sneaky.
BUT my anecdotal experience being raised by parents who were more hippy than authoritarian is that rebellious kids can happen to anyone.  My sister likes to tell people mom & dad did a great job parenting her until she was 12 and then she parented them.  Conversely, i am remembered as “the good kid” during my teen years.  I just had no desire to be extremely difficult.

My parents are both police officers but the most relaxed parents you would ever meet. Instead of intimidation and tight reigns, they gave me all their trust. And because I knew how much they trusted me I would NEVER betray it because i wanted to prove them right. I always told them the truth and when I did get in a bad situation they helped me out of it. I went to parties, I had fun, I experimented... But I was safe and my parents always knew where I could be found and I would call them if I were in trouble. I’m so thankful to my parents for that and raising me the way they did!
