GMOs, good or bad?

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed recently or frequently, I do not frequent this group.

See the problem with the term “GMO” is that it is an umbrella term.
*all* corn and tomatoes are genetically modified... because they were selectively bred in order to get good crops. Corn did not originally look like 🌽 it looked like 🌾. Tomatoes are in the nightshade family and used to be poisonous.
And so are those apples that don’t go brown, but that was done in a lab . Or those strawberries with fish DNA that has anti-freeze properties. 
They all fall under the same category. I have nothing against GMO. Its necessary for our continued survival.

I’ve tried growing my own strawberries at home. They were so teeny tiny. I’d much rather have my genetically modified strawberries from the store that are modified to be bigger and plumper 🤷🏼‍♀️🐷

I actually just finished a class project on GMO’s and did a bunch of research on it.  While many studies have been done with biased motives, a great deal are now contracted independently to labs outside of either side of the discussion and they continue to find no credible sources showing they actually pose adverse health effects in humans.  Some have shown decreased kidney function in mice and lab animals, but those studies were only 90days and the same results have not been shown in humans.
There is cause for concern of cross breeding and the creation of plants into the wild with some sort of super gene resistance and i get that, but as far as human health goes, GMO’s aren’t bad.  DNA is in everything we eat already, in a GMO we just tweak it a little.

I used to be a nutritionist full time, and I still believe most genetically modified foods are unsafe in the long run. 
It’s been linked to causing birth defects and cancer.

There is both good and bad when it comes to GMOs. It’s too general to say that they are all bad or all good. Come on now, actually do Research and look at both sides.

The idea of taking a gene from another species and inserting it into another unrelated species is WEIRD! I’d rather eat heirloom fruits and vegetables that people have been breeding and naturally selecting from for hundreds of years. Much more flavorful and I can speak first hand by growing a garden since a toddler. Also fuck Companies like Monsanto that only care about profit. “Feeding the world” no no no just another money hungry corporation who will stop at nothing to try to sell their seeds and pesticides. Causing 100’s of Indian farmers to commit suicide. Etc etc 😷😩

There's a difference between plants selectively bred and in-the-lab modified. Selective breeding to get a tastier or more colorful food is something that can happen naturally, gmo lab manipulation is forcing a plant's genes into something that may never have happened naturally. I feel like there may be a lot of unintended consequences of gmo manipulation, so I generally buy unmodified food. But I wouldn't necessarily exclude something just because it was gmo. I also think natural foods just taste better.

In all of the research and experience I’ve had with them I have no problem with GMOs. I mean I think we can appreciate a good seedless watermelon!

No one's proven any to be bad yet that I've seen so I'm good with them. Pretty darn handy in a lot of cases. I guess years from now they might be associated with cancer or something but honestly what isn't nowadays.
