Week two of no contact— 🇺🇸🇯🇵🇰🇷
—and I miss hearing from him so much.

For some quick back story, I moved to Japan back in 2016 and, this past December, met someone who I thought could be the love of my life—but he just happens to be Korean and as most of you probably know, Korea has a mandatory military service for men. As such, my boyfriend returned to Korea last month to serve out his 21 months. He will return to Japan after it’s completion to finish his degree and job hunt—and then he told me he wants to live here in Japan forever... With me.
Right now, he’s doing his five weeks of initial training where he has no access to a phone or computer. All I can do is send letters. The lack of contact is hard...
When he gets military leave in July, he asked me to travel to Seoul to see him, and of course I want to... But at the same time, I’m wondering if it’s smart for us to stay in a relationship for all of this time or if we should break it off and then see where we are after his service is over. I don’t know what to do.

The only thing I do know is that I miss talking to him, but I’m not sure if waiting 20 more months—at which point I’ll be almost 26 years old and he’ll be 28—is such a good idea. What would you ladies do? Break it off and see where our lives take us? Or wait it out?
