Is it irresponsible to own an aggressive dog?

Ms

So I work with dogs for a living. I recently met with a potential client who wanted me to walk their great Dane, but I ended up having to decline them because their dog was so aggressive it would not even let me in the house and would try to attack anybody who came to the door. Both of the owners were elderly and disabled so they are unable to physically control the dog. I strongly urge them to find training for the dog, but I was unable to train due to the level of aggressiveness and not wanting to take the risk because I’m pregnant. They said that they didn’t want to pay the money for a trainer. I felt that it was incredibly irresponsible to have such a large and dangerous dog who is so aggressive. What if something should happen to one of them and they need to call emergency services but no one is able to get in the house to rescue them because of the dog?

So what do you guys think, is it irresponsible to own an aggressive dog or is it the right of an animal owner to have a dog with whatever temperament they like. Does the size of the dog make a difference?
