Letting a murderer go because they didn’t go to trial within reasonable time, just or unjust?

Recently in Canada a man charged with murder was let go because of his right to a “timely trial”. What are your thoughts on people getting away with murder because of how long the court system takes? Is this just? 
I know there’s more than just this example but here’s the news story

Its his within his rights to get a timely trial, he didn’t get it so there was a stay.
The real problem here is the slow court system. We need to figure out a more efficient way of running our court systems to stop things like this from happening. This happens frequently in Canada.

As an attorney, this has always bugged me about the justice system. So much of what happens is about the attorneys not the truth of what happened.

This is a huge problem in Canada. It isn't just these types of cases either! A friend of mine was forced to drop a case against a former employer because her new employer was transferring her out of the country to work in a different division. 
It could have taken up to 10 years before it saw a courtroom. 10 fucking years for wrongful termination.

The judge "couldn't find the paperwork" Yeah, ok, or he went home to dinner with a fatter wallet.

Is there a definition of “timely”? If yes, and the legal system failed to uphold their end, then it would be an injustice to keep him locked up. If no, I’d argue that definitions of timely are vastly different and it would be unjust to force a trial while the victim’s loved ones are still grieving.

The police should not be able to detain people indefinitely without a trial. Just because a person is arrested does not mean they’re guilty.
So yeah, I have a problem with criminals going free because they weren’t given a timely trial. But my problem is that we need to put enough resources in the justice system so that people are tried timely.

Crazy! There should not be a statute of limitations on murder!!

There is a reason they do this. A man was "forgot" about while waiting for his trial. Forgot about for 3 years. It wasn't even a crime that he had to stay that long for. But for something like murder I think they don't really deserve a timely trial wait. Also you get a year so they should have definitely had the time to fit him in.
