Should I get the new iPhone? Or DSLR Camera? For baby pictures

I’m using an iPhone 5/SE right now, and my friends who have the iPhone 8 or iPhone X have incredible photos.
I was thinking of a DSLR Camera instead.
Since I’m having my first time baby, I’d like to take good pictures and videos for her memories.
I don’t have any maternity pics or pregnancy pics for myself right now. My phones not great for this. I might take some later.
Is it worth getting a camera or new iPhone??

If you’re not taking photos for a profession just get a new phone. It’s easier carry and you won’t have to purchase lenses or learn how to use a whole new piece of technology or also buy expensive editing software. Contrary to popular belief these days just anyone cannot be a photographer and it takes a lot of time and effort to learn how the camera works and until you put in that time you likely won’t get any better pictures than you would on a phone. Sure there’s an auto setting but if you’re using that you’re defeating the whole purpose of using a camera. Plus you’d have to also learn certain programs to get any sort of decent editing done whereas there are apps for that for the phone. Phone cameras are really great these days.

Camera! Although I’d actually recommend a mirrorless camera like the Sony a6000. I have this one as well as two digital SLR’s (Nikon d7000 and d7500). The Sony is smaller and easier to carry around than an SLR. I have my Sony with me more often than my SLR for that reason. While iPhones take great photos these days, the quality just isn’t there for printing purposes. You want to have an actual camera!

Pros of DLSR camera:
- takes amazing pictures
Cons of DSLR camera:
-even when using autofocus it's hard to learn how to take amazing photos
-they can be heavy and annoying to carry around with you
-you have to take out SD card and go through the process of uploading it to a computer
Pros of nice phone w camera:
-takes amazing pictures
-lightweight
-easily portable
-you can upload the pictures immediately to social media or send them directly from phone
-if baby is doing something cute you can just pull your phone out of your pocket and quickly take a picture
I have a DSLR and I've found that the learning curve of figuring out how to take really beautiful pictures just took forever and 9/10 if I take the same picture on my phone, it turns out better than the one on my camera. But maybe you can figure it out. I usually only use my DSLR for family portraits or if friends or family wants something professional but even then I feel like my boyfriends iPhone 7 takes better pics sometimes 😅

I have both and mostly I use my IPhone for pics and videos.. so I’d suggest to take an IPhone 😉 much more convenient and always with you 🤗📱👌🏻

I have a Sony dslr and my phone.   I have a nice 70-200 lens for it and an old Minolta prime depending on what I’m doing and love it.  It’s expensive though and I upgraded my base.  I wanted better video quality and faster frame shots. You can get good shots on auto but you sometimes need filters on or off and need to mess with it some.  I use it for fun but my husband and I both love photography on the side.   We don’t make $ doing it but maybe one day I will try to do family shots on the side

This really depends. Do you know how to use a DSLR? Having a nice camera doesn’t equate nice pictures. You have to know what you’re doing. If you do, then I would go for a DSLR over a new phone for quality purposes.
