Tips to transition out of nursing to sleep?

So cold turkey isn’t working. She refuses to go to sleep without the nipple. I’ve tried laying her down drowsy but awake, that’s a disaster. She just cries forever and then I feel guilty. She also has never taken a pacifier reliably. Sometimes she’ll take it but not if she’s already screaming... has anyone successfully stopped nursing to sleep and has some awesome insight to share? I’ve googled the crap out of it and am starting to lose my mind

Okay. It took me literally a month to get both my twin girls able to handle this. I still nurse them at bedtime and sometimes they fall asleep and sometimes they don’t. If they fall asleep I gently wake them up a little by either kissing them or telling them I love them while putting them down. This how I started- the first night I think bedtime took three hours for both of them to finally settle. It fucking sucked. They don’t take pacifiers either and I dont believe in letting them cry it out alone so what I did is sat with them and shushed them or had a hand on their chest to comfort them. They were super pissed I didn’t pick them up but I knew they were fed, dry and not alone and inwas offering them comfort still. Fast forward to now if they don’t fall asleep while nursing I just put them down and they just quietly fall asleep on their own. No tears. No arguments. They will either talk or wiggle until they pass out. The first night was the worst but from then on it got better. I always stay in the room with them until they’re asleep. You can do this!! I have. But it involved letting her cry while I sit beside her crib and repeat the key phrases - “it’s nap time. I love you” - every two minutes and pat and shush her. I also do the exact same routine before every naptime. Diaper change. Book. Say goodnight to a few things in the room. Twinkle twinkle little star song. Put in bed awake. 
They won’t really cry forever, even though it seems like it. Sorry, that’s probably not the answer you wanted to hear. 
But I have a happy, well rounded baby girl who self soothes to sleep with some minor crying/fussing and still loves her mama.

I changed my routine to bath, booby, story then bed. But the only way I can get him flaked settle is if I lay him on his tummy. He sends himself off to sleep in a few minutes this way, on his back he either screams or lays smiling at me not sleepy at all!!!!

When I pop baby down she starts to cry and wiggle about. I hold her head and hand to stop her touching her face and lifting her head up, count to 10 and she’s stopped wiggling and with eyes closed is murmuring herself to sleep. Within about a min I can let go and she’s asleep. It seems restraining, and it is. But it’s for a short time and she doesn’t get stressed. Her crying doesn’t escalate it quickly subsides. It works for us hope it helps you out x
