what’s the earliest a kid will understand potty training?

The usual age is 22-36 months but you should only start when your child shows signs of being ready - forcing any earlier than that can do psychological damage and will make it harder down the road.

We were told that its better to wait until 2. Before then, they just really don't have control over their bladder and trying to get them to hold it can result it UTIs and other issues. Obviously a great idea to introduce the potty and get them curious about it before then, but our pediatrician said we'd have better luck just waiting until 2 when they can really verbalize well when they need to go and have better control over their bladder and bowels. She said potty training goes much more smoothly and quickly when baby is READY to potty train over when we want them to. (I'm not passing judgement or saying what's right or what worked for other moms and children. I'm just relaying what our pediatrician's suggestions were. My son is only 19 months and is nowhere near ready for the potty.)

Some cultures potty train at a few months old. I. The 50s babies were trained much sooner. Probably because there was someone in the home to provide constant training and the feeling of cloth vs disposable diapers.

My daughter was potty trained by 16ish months.

The sooner the better! If they can walk and say pee, you’re  good! My siblings and  were all completely trained by 16-18 months. The US has one of the oldest potty training average ages. Lots of cultures start a younger than 2 and do so very successfully

Before 2 years old they cannot control their bladder or bowel movements fully. It’s ok to introduce potty training before then, but expect accidents and don’t push it if they aren’t ready yet

As soon as they can tell you or communicate that they need to go. If they can recognize and name the feeling thats usually a sign that they’re ready.

I start once there able to walk or when they start talking cause if you can talk you can say potty for me to sit you there if you walk first before talk than you can use the potty cause you can move
