Eloped... Let's try this again

So last night I posted on here about how I eloped recently with my child's father and my family is not happy, they are basically ignoring the fact that it happened. I had hoped we could celebrate in some way. The response I got here was basically "well you're just selfish, that's what you get for eloping, you should apologize for not including your family." Let me explain the situation a little further so maybe you can understand our reasoning for eloping. My husband is an Iraq war veteran. He served in the Army for 7 years, 4 of which were spent deployed to Iraq. While there, his humvee hit an IED and blew up. He spent months in a hospital in Germany. To this day he still has shrapnel in his chest near his heart because it's too dangerous to remove. We found out a couple weeks ago the shrapnel has moved even closer to the main artery of his heart, meaning any slight bump to the best could cause it to shift and basically kill him. There is nothing that can be done to remove it. The doctor said he should prepare himself for the inevitable, because it could happen any time without warning. THAT'S why we chose to elope. We worried we didn't have time to plan a wedding or wait until it was a "good time." I left that part of the story out before because it's incredibly personal and terrifying. That's why I'm upset at how the people on here tore me down telling me I'm selfish for eloping, I should apologize to my family for leaving them out. For the record, my family knows all of this about why we eloped and they are still not happy. They still don't understand and are ignoring the situation. They don't get how terrified I am that at any moment I will lose my best friend and become a widow and single mom. I just want them to be happy for me and my husband while he's still here.
