Giving Newborn Sugar Water?

Question

Has anyones pediatrician told them to give their newborns sugar water as a filler between feedings? I've asked a few friends with kids and those who've recently had babies and none of their kid's doctors suggested it. My baby is only a week old. My 3 year old cousin goes to the same doctor so when she mentioned the sugar water I didnt think anything of it until everyone i asked said their doctors never recommended it or anything. Also I found out from my granny who takes care of my cousin that the sugar water made him constipated so the doctor had him switch to kyro syrup and water and now the doctor is telling my granny he has the beginning stages of diabetes and the doctor also has him on a concoction of allergy medicine when he's not allergic to anything and he doesnt show any signs of having indoor or outdoor allergies. So hearing all this and knowing how it affected my cousin I'm thinking about switching doctors now. The doctor also had my cousin start eating baby food and cereal at 4 weeks; the WIC office wouldnt give him vouchers for the food or cereal though bc he was too little even though my granny brought them paper work from the doctor. So I'm just curious if anyone else has heard of giving the new born sugar water and if you did how did it effect your baby?

Please find a new pediatrician. Sugar water is an old school nonsense recommendation that has ZERO scientific proof of actually working. Infants should not have anything except breastmilk or formula as it can cause an electrolyte disturbance and lead to consequences like seizures. Sounds like this guy is a quack.

No absolutely not babies do not need anything except formula or breast milk until after 1 year old they get everything they need from bm and formula giving them water esp so you g can kill them and if your cbaby needs a so called filler than give them more formula or breastmilk

How long has your OB been practicing? Decades ago that was recommended, but recent research does not support anything besides breast milk or formula.

This is VERY old school. Not in a good way. A baby does not need sugar water at all. It is actually not good for them because it doesn’t really have any of the nutrients they need. Empty calories, just like for us. Which means they will take less milk/formula and may have trouble with their development.
I would switch pediatricians because that pediatricians ideas do not align with mine.

I would switch doctors. The only thing I have ever heard it used for is for pain relief during injections and other medical procedures. They do that in hospitals. I’ve never heard of it being used for any other reason. No way to it being used as a filler! I have to really disagree with that.

Run from that Dr quick fast and in a hurry!!! I have 6 children and pregnant with #8... I've had a multitude of Dr's, pediatricians, done Wic, parenting classes etc. That is definitely not advice I've ever heard in my life. None of my kids touched anything but breastmilk or formula till 6 months of age, definitely not at 4 weeks. Even Wic won't give food till 4 months and the nutritionists there will tell you why. I'm baffled by this Dr! 😲
