Breastfeeding help?

Hello ladies, I’m a FTM and want to try exclusively breastfeeding. My LO is 3 days old and my milk finally came in. I want to know how often I should be feeding her, how much, and for how long? Also, when should I start pumping to start a storage and how much should I expect to get from that? If any can give me any resources that’d be great. Thanks!

I nursed on demand. At the start nursing typically takes about 30-60 min depending on the kid. I did both sides (second side was not as emptied as the first so I would start on that side the next feed). You can never over feed a bf baby so let them nurse until they are done.

I highly suggest having a Lactation Consultant’s phone number. Your local hospital should have them. Or you can find one from La Leche. Having an LC will be one of your greatest assets for nursing. They’re full of information, can do weight checks, assist with latching/positions, and answer all of your breastfeeding questions thoroughly. 
Also nursing on demand is best. You can pump whenever as far as I’m aware, just make sure you have nursed LO for has long as they want to first.

Feed baby whenever they are hungry! In the first week my little probably ate every 60-90 minutes during the day and I just fed him until he was full. I didn’t start pumping until 3 weeks to relieve engorgement from over supply.

My son was born 7 weeks so I had time to pump since he was in the NICU. Now that he's home  I nurse on demand until he's tired and if I still feel full then I will pump for 10 mins or so afterwards. Every baby is different so you just have to know your baby que's of hungriness. Since your baby is quite new I would suggesting pumping after every feeding to start your storage because she/he probably will not eat much yet. congrats and good luck

As previously suggested, nurse on demand but as you can't over feed a bf  baby there's no harm in offering the breast if you think it's been too long between feeds or if you're feeling engorged or uncomfortable. A good tip is to buy one of the silicon breast 'pumps' they just attach to your breast using suction & you can pop it on the non feeding side to catch the milk that leaks. If you do this each time you feed & store the milk in the fridge adding to it until the end of the day & then freezing. This saves time & the uncomfortable electric pump! I had to time my feedings my baby wouldnt wake up to feed on his own at first I had to do every 2-3 hrs until he learned to wake up when hungry and I never gave a time limit , I always started on breast I didn't feed as long and I pumped between about twice a day at first , then I started producing so much I had to pump between about 3 of the feedings because the my milk would come out to fast and hed start choking kinda but lactation support helped me the most

feed whenever she wants for however long she wants. If she keeps popping off one side and is still hungry, offer the other. honestly, pumping can be hit or miss, so don't fret too much about it.
