I guess the question is, aside from him getting documented, do you WANT to marry him? Does it feel right? If the answer is no, then no. If the answer is yes, then yes. 
My husband is in the process of becoming a US resident. But that’s not why we got married. We love each other, I knew he was the one for me (and vice versa). He is the only person I would ever want to dedicate my life to, and I was 100% sure about that. No question about it. I wouldn’t have married him otherwise. 
Hopefully after 6 years you will be confident in whether or not you want that with your SO.

That depends on if you want to marry him or not. I’d say after 6 years, yes. 
I married my EX husband after being together 3 months and filed for his papers. He was horrible to me. We divorced he got his 10 year permanent residency. So many regrets. Lol
But like I said you’ve been with him for 6 years... different story! I have been through the immigration process w my ex and it wasn’t fun. Unnerving actually. As long as he came into the US legally you two won’t have problems. Now I’ve rambled too much 🤦🏻‍♀️ sorry!

Yea if you love him why not ?? Me and my husband didn’t get married til the day of our 9th anniversary. I would have married him and fixed his papers sooner if he didn’t have them
