What the heck is a glucose test?!

I’m type 2 diabetic and 21 weeks pregnant I’ve not done one of these yet and I have no idea if I am in the future. What does it do and any other information on it would be great

If you already check your blood sugar throughout the day, you won't take the test. You basically drink a syrupy drink and get your blood drawn to see if you have excess sugar in your system over time. If she fails she will need to monitor her sugars the rest of the pregnancy. But if you already do that for your diabetes then no need to do the test.

I believe it’s to check for gestational diabetes.

Not sure if they do them on moms who are already diabetic. The glucose test is done for the sole purpose of testing for gestational diabetes, usually around week 24-28. It’s basically just a glucose challenge... you drink a drink with 50mg glucose, wait an hour, then they draw your blood.

You won’t do it if you’re diabetic. I did it for my first pregnancy and failed and so with my pregnancies after they didn’t make me do it. Instead when they do the initial blood draw they check your A1C. And just have a plan for during your pregnancy. Probably a little more medication since the placenta messes with your glucose levels.

It’s to check for gestational diabetes. Do yourself a favor and do not fast before it. Eat only protein like eggs or chicken and cheese. No carbs or sugar. And only water.
