how would you describe your relationship with your mother when you were a teenager (or if you are currently a teenager)?

i have an extremely bad relationship with my mother and it has caused a lot of my mental struggling. i made this poll with the hopes that i can feel less alone with what i’m going through. feel free to share your stories with your mother as a teenager, it will reassure me. i can’t help but think i’m the only daughter with “mommy issues”.

I love my mum but she always has to be right and gets offended and angry if I tell her I don’t like something she does... when my therapist told her to be more understanding she gets annoyed and believes she’s doing everything right. She can never apologise its awful. It makes me uncomfortable to talk to her but we have good times and memories so it’s very neutral

My mom passed away 14 yrs ago. what I would do to have her back. My daughter is named after her.

I see my mom's personality in her. My mom was a fighter and so is my baby girl. She just had surgery on Friday to place a feeding tube. She's 5 months old (6 months on the 15th) and weighs 11lbs.

I blamed my mom a lot for all my bro and went through as kids. Once I hit my early 20's I realized she was human and made mistakes too. I was able to there for her during a really time in her life and that strengthened our relationship. Once I became a parent and then got divorced,  I really understood how choices you have as a single parent may not make sense to your young kids at the time. I understand that those decisions made as an adult impact my kids' thinking, mindset, feeling of self-worth, etc. So in a way I'm glad the way my life was because it's enabling me to be a good parent now. My mom and I are close now.

When I was a young teen (13-15), we didn’t get along that well. I hated her to be honest. I felt like I couldn’t trust her. Even as an older teen, we got along better but she wasn’t my favorite person. Now that we’re both adults, we get along so much better. We still have petty arguments from time to time, but I feel it’s easier to be closer to her now.

You are definitely not alone! My mom and I just started getting better about 2 years ago. I’m 25. We started to not get along in middle school when I was old enough to realize a lot of things about her and she also started treating me poorly telling me I was I was fat and whatnot when I wasn’t and I could never do anything right and that has caused me lots of issues that she still doesn’t even know about that still affect me today! We still have our moments where I want to punch her for some of the things she says or how she acts towards my husband (we just have different views on literally everything and she says exactly what is on her mind) but I have learned to just bite my lip and nod haha luckily my dad is a saint and I’m definitely a daddy’s girl so he sticks up for me all the time to her which always helped me. Things got a little better after I got engaged, even though she hated my fiancé, and now things are great (this month lol) because I’m pregnant. I never thought we would get to where we are today! There was a point in my engagement when my dad even told her to straighten up or she won’t be coming to the wedding because she was so mean to us. My advice would be to just try to ignore things she says if she is mean and to just play the nice card and not fight back no matter how hard! And one day when you have a kid just try to be better! Good luck little lady, mom problems are terrible.

Hey you’re definitely not alone I’m currently 15 but from ages 12-15 my Mum would constantly scream and yell at me telling me I was worthless, I put up with it because she was diagnosed with depression because of her job but she left and the verbal and emotional abuse I got from my mum continued and I was soon diagnosed with depression, it took years for my Mum to realise what was happening we are okay now but there is the occasional problems things will get better ♥️
