Less effective?

My IUD is coming up on its removal date, there’s only a few more months till then. I’m just wondering does that make it less effective? Or is it still working at full capacity till I get it removed?

i had mine in for almost 9 years (same one) ob told me because i still didnt get af every month its was still working. i was very bad i know. lol  now that being said deff get it out at 5 years because after the 5 year mark is when they start to not work like thwy should.

It works until it expires.
So if your IUD is good for 5 years, I would get it out at like 4 years and 11 months personally. I’m sure it’s probably good for a few months into 5 years, and the time is more of a safety net.
Don’t keep your IUD in for an extended amount of time if it was supposed to be removed!! It will stop sending out hormones or working and you can get pregnant.
