Reasons they would unblock you?

An ex that I’m still in love with ( okay pls I know it already, “ex for a reason , move on. Why do they matter when they shouldn’t” I’ve already had that pep talk. I really don’t want to sound rude, but I just have some personal questions ) They unblocked my number and unblocked me on socials. We left it on bad terms, he blocked me before I could respond to his message back then. This was about a month ago. I just can’t seem to figure out why. Can anyone just tell me a reason why a person would do that if they don’t plan on talking to you anyways? Why go out your way to unblock someone. Some reasons I’ve heard are:

- so they can have a clean conscious / make themselves feel better

-they forgive you / they’re not mad anymore

- maybe they’ll talk to you when they’re ready

- they don’t care about you and just said “might as well unblock them”

Ofc I should ignore it since it’s an ex. But I just don’t get why go out your way. Even if it was a friend and we left on bad terms, if you’re not going to be involved them in any shape or form , then what’s the point ?

Because if I was the blocker, if I really forgot about the person and didn’t want any trace of them I’d just leave the block be.

Why does it matter to me if I’m blocked or unblocked ? Well, I just prefer knowing if they’re really done , to cut off all possible connections. Since I still love them, it’s kinda tempting to hit them up. But I respect that there are boundaries and exes are exes. “Why don’t you just block them?” You might ask. It’s because me blocking someone I want to try to talk to doesn’t really help. No self control

In the end... just why. Remove all the relationship parts. Just why would someone unblock someone they don’t ever intend on talking to? That’s the main question.

EDIT: I’ve tried texting them, no response. But I know it was delivered. I don’t think they want to talk? So more like they only unblocked just because. I still don’t get why anyone would do it. Also, we’ve only been broken up for about 3 months now.
