Forced Retraction: Happened to my baby boy!
This weekend (Apr 21 2018) my baby had to be admitted to the hospital for a strangulated Inguinal Hernia. His operation was the next morning. It happened so quick and so surreal
Upon receiving him back, I was informed of "blood in his diaper". Not from the procedure in any way. The resident had "pulled it back a little to see the urethral opening" and caused bleeding. Immediately informed all saying that IS Forced Retraction and that was COMPLETELY unnecessary. I raised a stink for sure.
After much probing, the Resident was checking for a condition called
Hypospadias:
A condition in which the opening of the penis is on the underside rather than the tip.
Symptoms:
The penis may curve down in an infant, and the baby may spray while urinating.
My son is not exhibiting these symptoms. And most certainly is NOT an issue.
Hypospadias is a condition many men go on their entire lives with comfortably. And my son is not having any issues what so ever and will NOT be able to detect if it hasn't exhibited itself now, then later once he is retractable.
The performing doctor of his procedure sees no issue and is continuing to justify her residents action. The care team thinks her actions are justified as well, aside from my nurse. My nurse for one of the shifts was absolutely baffled by the situation and in agreement with me, and curious herself.
I have indeed filed an incident report with the Director of Care Management of the hospital, which they had failed to do themselves.
My son was bleeding from his penis, swollen at the TIP, and had pain during urination and not normal for him. Done without our consent and trying to create a condition not being presented with any symptoms aside from being "uncircumcised"
After 24 hors it has healed. If it had caused unnecessary infection on top of his healing, court will be where we are heading. I am in contact now with some legal help and fixing to teach these
I was not prepared at all for any of this. I have information for doctors and the like, but being an emergency we left with the clothes on our backs and tensions high. From now on this mama is carrying g a folder in the diaper bag 👍🏼
I have shed so many tears of having to see my baby in SO much pain and distress, and being separated while he was flown without us to the other hospital, this should not have been on my lists of concerns.
