Is it common for the gynecologist to make a mistake in identifying the sex of the baby the first time? Did it happen to you ?

I had an ultrasound at 13 weeks to rule out malformations, we wanted the gender to be a surprise but my son is an exhibitionist 😂
I know that 13 weeks is quite early to determine the sex of the baby so I have not bought any clothes because I have heard stories of babies who were supposed to be boys and turned out to be girls and vice versa 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s that common ? 
Here is a photo of my baby’s penis 😂 I think it looks kind of weird, maybe it’s his arm or something?

I believe it’s more common for girls to be misidentified in the womb than boys. Because you either see something or you don’t.... and that, that is a penis.

yes it's common. I was told a girl at 13 weeks and then a boy at 19. I do have to say tho, that deff looks like a boy.

I was told at 14+1 that it’s a girl and I’m so nervous it’s wrong because I want it to be a girl so bad!

It is rare, but I think the earlier you are told, the more likely it is to be wrong.  There seemed to be a lot of mistakes at early non-medical US in my birth month group when moms were 15 weeks or less pregnant at the time of the US.

It’s rare, and usually it’s a misgendered girl because apparently when baby boys are super young in the womb the penis can retract? I asked my ultrasound tech about it and that’s what she told me because one of my friends was told she was having a girl and she had a boy. I had them check at every ultrasound because I’m having a girl lol

A friend of mine was told she was having her second boy - he turned out to be her first daughter. Apparently, the “penis” the ultrasound tech saw was either an arms the umbilical cord, etc. It’s rare, but it happens
