Feminine hygiene products
Long story ahead.
I used pads from age 11 to 15, that’s what my mom bought me and I didn’t know any different. My periods got really bad and started making me sick, so my mom and doctor put me on birth control to stop them. It’s been 5 years and now that I’m married, I decided to go back to having regular periods just so I know every month that I’m not pregnant. I’ve had four periods so far and it hasn’t been awful like in high school so I’m happy about that. I feel like more of an adult if that makes sense?
Anyways, I started using tampons because I always hated pads but tampons are awful too! I’m fairly health conscious so I made sure to get organic ones but the whole experience just isn’t pleasant for me. I have a fairly light flow and they hurt to remove even after a full 7 hours. I was so afraid of tss that I wouldn’t sleep at night because I was scared of over sleeping. During the day I would constantly feel like I had to pee when I used tampons, they must have been pushing on my bladder or something. When I would go pee, the string would get in my way and the whole thing was just kinda gross to me. No matter what I did I could always feel the string hanging out of me and it would irritate my skin around my area. Not fun.
This whole experience has led me here. Yesterday I bought this menstrual cup. It’s a lunette cup size one and it cost me $34.99 at my local health store. If you haven’t tried a cup yet, let me tell you about how much I already love it. It’s been 24 hours since I purchased it and I don’t think I’ll be going back. I didn’t really have any issues inserting it and I haven’t leaked at all. I slept through the night for the first time ever on my period. Removing it is a bit uncomfortable but I guess that’s part of learning and I’ll take it any day over removing a tampon. Knowing that I don’t have to worry about it the whole day at work is wonderful. I went about my normal workout last night with no issues at all. My only complaint would be that I feel like it might be restricting my urine stream when I pee, like it’s kinda pushing on my urethra making it slightly harder to empty my bladder.
Overall I’m very pleased and I will definitely be recommending that everyone at least try a menstrual cup. It’s better for the environment because pads and tampons create so much waste, and can be toxic to your body.
If you’ve read this far, thank you and please take the time to at least give this amazing alternative a try.
