has anyone adopted? (U.S.)

we had 2 early losses this today me last year and havent been able to conceive since. i had a VERY hard and traumatic pregnancy with my daughter five years ago. i have made an appointment with a doctor to try and keep ttc but between my current and past health issues i cant help but wonder if adoption would be the better choice. i have read that domestic infant/toddler adoption costs an average of $30,000. can anyone who has adopted tell me how much they actually paid out off pocket? and how long it took?
