Hi, do yeast infections happen naturally? Can someone please explain what they are?

They are very common and easy to treat. There's a certain healthy amount of yeast that lives in our vaginas along with other bacteria. The bacteria help keep the yeast at a certain level but if there is some type of imbalance it can turn into a yeast infection when the yeast multiplies since that bacteria is no longer there to maintain it. 
You can develop a yeast infection from a number of ways: wearing tight clothing/underwear a lot, having intercourse with someone who has an untreated yeast infection, not changing your tampon regularly, even taking antibiotics (they kill the good bacteria as well so it can cause an imbalance), using feminine hygiene products (yes these can give you yeast infections, they are unnecessary), and also just your overall health.

Yeast infections are very common. Lots of stuff causes them. Your ph balance has been thrown off. Sex can cause them (it’s not an STD) too much caffeine, sugar, alcohol, detergent, soap, tight clothes, wet swim suits if not changed and dried. Many more.

They can happen often when you have a hormone imbalance, pregnant, or when you have sex and don't do kegels. Many oyher things can cause it too but you would have to visit a dr to learn more.  You already have yeast but a yeast infection is the over production of it.

I got mine from wearing yoga pants and leggings because after running I decided not to change them and yeast was growing down there... Cottage cheese discharge + itch.
