Essential Oils during labor?

Question

Any of you mommas use some essential oils during your actual labor? Did you have any issues with the doc/hospital allowing it? Which ones did you choose to use and how? Do you think it actually helped?

I plan on using clary sage and lavender just a few drops in the palms of my hands to breathe in during contractions

I have patients bring their diffusers all the time!

There was a diffuser going in the room provided by the hospital while I was in labor, it had lavender in it. I don’t see them having an issue with oils, at the very least diffused, can’t hurt to ask!  Good luck!

I used lavender and while I can’t say that it helped calm me, it was something that took my mind off of the contractions for a hot second 😂 
But my hospital didn’t allow diffusers, but they encouraged us to dab some oil into a cotton ball or wear a diffusing necklace (that’s what I did)

I already have my peppermint oil in my bag! With my first son, I was in early labor for two days and active labor for 36 hours because he was posterior. I hadn’t slept in days, relentless back labor and contractions on top of each other. My midwife came and passed the bottle of peppermint oil across my nose. As soon as I took a whiff, my body went limp in the pool. My mom said she got scared and thought my body had finally given up lol I can’t explain it. It was as if every single muscle in my body relaxed and i fell asleep for 30 seconds. It was DEEP sleep. Like someone snapped their fingers and i had even started to dream and my husband said I snored a little haha and then I just opened my eyes re energized and said OKAY, LETS DO THIS and it gave me that last burst of energy to finally get my baby out after 3.5 hrs of pushing. I’ll be diffusing oils this time for sure.
