When should I start to worry?

FTM here , my 8 day old (formula fed) hasn’t pooped in 24 hours . When should I start to worry ? She keeps grunting and straining like she’s trying to go , but just ends up crying because she can’t . Me and dad are both so so sad for her and just want her to poo already ☹️

You can lay her on her back and cycle her legs to help her go.

You can certainly call the pediatrician but I’d say you don’t need to worry until day 3.

My pediatrician said newborns can go up to 10 days without pooping and be fine, I was surprised by that...I'd be worried after like 3 days and doc visit at like 5

My son has always been formula fed and he would go every 3-4 days. If he started to get a sore belly I would massage his tummy and do bicycle legs also a warm bath would soothe him. Now he’s 10 months so has solids and poops every day sometimes twice.

We were told it can be normal for them to go even 3-4 days but definitely try to help if they are uncomfortable. We cycled legs, rubbed the belly, gave gas drops, even did anal stimulation. Sometimes it helped and sometimes it didn't.

There’s also a product I used a lot when my 5 month old was a newborn. It’s by frida baby- called windi. It helps them get the gas out, and my son was really gassy....lots of poop usually comes with!
