Elective induction? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey mamas, so I’m seeing a trend here. Over the last few years I’ve seen woman who post on here about choosing to get an induction done instead of letting labor just happen naturally. Aside from those who have GD, preeclampsia, are over 41 weeks (or any other medically deemed reason), I just can’t understand why anyone would choose to be induced.

Im not judging anyone’s personal choice because to each their own. But why has this become such a “popular” option, over just letting baby come on their own?

A friend of mine did it because she felt miserable (she was a little over 40 weeks) and didn't feel like she could wait anymore. I also have a friend who chose elective c-section with both her kids, because she was afraid of the pain. I don't judge them, they're my friends and I know they love their children. Personally however, I wouldn't do either unless medically necessary. I'm at 38 weeks and also really tired and frustrated by now, but I trust my body ans baby to let me know when the time is right.

I have to be induced due to GD and really don’t want to, but I can completely understand why some would elect it. My doctor said there is no medical benefit to keeping Baby in past it’s due date. And my best friend went a week past her due date with her first and her labor was difficult and her son had many complications that still affect him today. She is convinced it was because he cooked too long so she elected to be induced around 39 weeks with her second and third. I don’t know that there is any truth to her theory, but for peace of mind alone I think it is a valid reason to get induced. A doctor isn’t going to induce if it’s unsafe, so I see no reason why a woman shouldn’t be able to elect it if she wants.

I have had the same question, but I know it can be a touchy subject so I just leave it alone haha. I was induced with our first at 41 weeks and it was 3 days of hell. I would do pretty much anything to avoid ever going through that again. I’d rather go through as many weeks of pregnant and miserable as she wants. I also still feel guilty because I think some of the complications we experienced were because he just wasn’t ready to come out yet. You couldn’t pay me enough to induce early (aside from medical necessity of course). This time I won’t allow induction before 42 weeks unless he’s not doing well or something else comes up.

I’ve read people do it for convenience reasons. If they live too far from the hospital and doctors don’t believe they would make it in time to deliver safely, they will suggest induction. I have only been induced due to medical reasons but I can understand why someone would schedule an induction if they are completely miserable.

I scheduled an induction with my first. I ended up going into labor the day before. 
Reason 1, I was so over being pregnant and I had an 8lb baby inside of me already. My l dr. didn’t want him getting that much bigger and me having a hard time delivering. I ended up with a 4th degree tear. So if I would’ve stayed pregnant til 41 weeks, I can guarantee it would’ve ended in csection for me. 
Pregnant with my second now and if I’m dilated to at least a 3 (like i was last time) and if my dr. will let me schedule an induction at 39 weeks, I’m going to take it. Mainly because my in laws live 11 hrs away and we have no one else to watch my son when I go into labor, so being able to schedule it would be less stressful for me.

I'm 39 weeks 3days and am being inducted tomorrow.  I'm uncomfortable, my feet are swollen, my bp is slightly elevated, and my baby is huge. even though my tests all came back fine my doctor opted to schedule a medical induction for me. I'm a planner so it's just nice to have a timeline for everything plus I'm miserable!

I'm over 40 weeks and being induced this Tuesday. I'm miserable, hurts to  walk, carpal tunnal gets worse everyday, still get nausea, my feet and ankles are so swollen. Yeah it's time to meet my baby boy.

I was induced the day before my due date with my daughter; and made sure my new dr was aware of this and OK with letting me have another elective induction this time (if I'm favorable - that's the key). I wanted to be induced because I was / am terrified of labor and pain. Scheduling a date gave me some control regarding the whole thing. My husband and I were also both two weeks late and over 10 lbs- so I was terrified of having a huge baby.

I’ll be induced on Thursday at 39+1 with my 4th child due to fast labors (5 total hours with my most recent), being GBS+ and living 56 miles from my hospital. With my last baby I didn’t make it in time to get the two full doses of penicillin, and they are concerned that this baby will come even faster, at which point I might not even make it to the hospital at all, let alone get 1-2 doses.  I would love to go into labor naturally, be able to labor at home, and go into the hospital when contractions pick up- but so far all my births have been ‘nothing, nothing, water broke, oh shiz those contractions are 5 minutes apart, race to the hospital’.

I was 40+6 when we induced. She shares her great grandmothers birthday 🙂 which is why we induced when we did. I figured it seemed likely to happen anyway, no contractions or any signs she was coming soon, so might as well make it happen on a special day. It did only take cervidil to get everything going though.
