Traveling abroad clothing for Europe?

Hi! I am traveling to Europe in June with my friend. What kind of clothing should I pack? My friend said her grandma has been to europe and that she said not to pack shorts because they will know we are American. Should I just pack dresses, tank tops, skirts, and capris??? What are the best kind of clothes to pack? Thanks to anyone who can help :)

Wear whatever you want, if the days are hot wear shorts...i don’t understand the shorts how they will know your American when I’m from Europe and I wear shorts and so do a lot of people?
